First Day of 2026

Posted on January 1, 2026 by victoria

After a very busy New Year’s Eve (got through everything on my to-clean list except the patio), I enjoyed a cup of camomile tea in a hot bubble bath and was asleep in bed with the cats before 2025 turned into 2026.

The first day of 2026 was pretty awesome. I started with a nice, slow pace, savoring my coffee and the quiet.

I made a delicious fruit/oat bake (been craving it for awhile and had some fruit that needed to be used up). Spent some quality time on my meditation cushion and then decided to go for a walk, since it was sunny and beautiful and I’m such a sucker for winter afternoon sunshine. It was like the Universe was so excited to show me what it had for me out there today.

I met my neighbor (we see each other around the complex all the time) and had a nice talk with her. Turns out she and her husband also spent a good chunk of time living in the Bay Area. Small, funny little world, eh? But the Universe wasn’t done impressing me. After hearing a voice (there was no one near me) telling me to look up, something at the top of one of the trees caught my eye.

This is the first bald eagle I’ve seen since I moved to North Carolina!

The walk (not to mention the excitement of seeing the eagle and meeting my neighbor) made me hungry, so it was time for me to make my Hoppin’ John dinner. It did not disappoint! I probably say this every year, but this is truly the best one I’ve made yet! And there’s a “Twilight Zone” marathon on: you never have to twist my arm to get me to binge-watch this classic!

Of course, I gotta have my cornbread with the Hoppin’ John. It’s about the only time I haul out the cast iron skillet: it’s a pain in the ass to deal with LOL!

So, I would say 2026 is off to a great start! The beginning of the best year of my life, if I have anything to say about it (and I do).

I hope your new year got off to a great start, too!
