Weekend Dead Moon: It's OK

Eh, I'm still in a nostalgic PDX music mood. I had a hard time deciding between this one and 54/40 Or Fight, which is also a totally kick-ass tune. But It's OK is the song I put on when I'm feeling very low and lonely and not very clever at all and I need to cheer up. Pearl Jam did a good cover of this song as well.

Weekend Dharma Bums: The Light In You

I know I've said this before, but Portland had one seriously awesome music scene in the mid-to-late 80's and early 90's (there is still some really great music coming from PDX, but I'm feeling nostalgic today). The Bums were my most favourite. I was so heartbroken when they broke up and for years held onto hope that they would come to their senses and get back together. As many times as I've been dumped in my life, I think THEIR breakup is the one breakup that I've never completely gotten over.

Fans of The Decemberists will recognize John Moen in this video. This was from their third and final album, "Welcome". Jeremy had cut off his hair by then but was still incredibly hot (as was Eric). John and Jim were, as always, ridiculously adorable. I had crushes on all of them at one time or another.

Hope you're on the mend, Jeremy!

Damn!

The rumours have proven true. Dead Moon have called it quits. It's a sad day for rock 'n' roll.

Thanks for 20 years of great music, Fred, Toody and Andrew. Some of the best times I've had were at your shows. In a business that is so full of pretentiousness, you guys always kept it real. When other bands maintained a space between themselves and their fans, you embraced one and all and made each one of us feel like your oldest best friend.

I'm absolutely gutted that I'll never see another Dead Moon show, but somehow I get the feeling I may be seeing you guys again.

RIP, Dead Moon. Long Live Toody, Fred and Andrew, and all of the great music, memories and friendships you gave us!

EDIT TO ADD: I'll add links as I can find them. Here's the obit from Wilammette Week.

Say it ain't so!!!

My most beloved Portland band, Dead Moon, recently cancelled their "welcome back to Portland" gig (they had just finished touring Europe), as well as their upcoming New Year's Eve gig--which is something of a tradition for them. The rumours are flying that Dead Moon have broken up. If it's true, that makes me very, very sad indeed.
