Yeesh.
As we were about to dock in San Francisco this morning, the most exciting part of the trip was a spot of controversy over whether they'd tie a bow line or not. Then we docked and discovered paramedics, police and the Coast Guard were on our dock, evidently carrying out a rescue. They kept us on the Encinal for a few minutes while they got the person on the gurney prepared to carry up the dock to a waiting ambulance.
When we were allowed to disembark a few minutes later, we got outside the gate to find more police and fire trucks and a television camera and other assorted people milling about, one guy with a small digital camera taking photos and upsetting the two female security guards.
According to the KPIX site, there were two jumpers (but I have no idea how many were pulled from the water).
Hell of a start to the day.
UPDATE: According to the KPIX site, a good samaritan jumped into the water after finding a young woman floating face-down. They're both in hospital in stable condition. My thoughts and best wishes for a full and fast recovery go to both of them.
