Wishing I had a Canadian satellite dish

I realize I'm late to the table on this one, but I just stumbled across this series on the CBC site called Hockey: A People's History. I just spent a good-sized chunk of my afternoon going through the past episodes and viewing the Virtual Hotstove clips.

A nice surpirse (and it's a shame that I consider it a surprise at all) is that they're giving a nod to the role women's hockey has in the history of the game. I really had little idea that it was as extensive as it is, going all the way back to Lord Stanley's daughter, Isobel.

I had been rather bitter about the NHL recently and hadn't watched a hockey game in a couple of years. Looking back on the history of the game, the beauty and character of it, it reminded me why I love hockey so much. This is a series I will definitely be checking out when it comes out on DVD. In the meantime, I'll be keeping up with the new episodes as they are added online upon airing on CBC.
