I like my speech instructor well enough except for a few nigglies:
* by his own admission he's half-deaf and his mind wanders during our speeches
* because of the above, he
always interrupts us while we speak
* he listens to what he's going to say instead of what we're saying...especially when he disagrees with our viewpoint.
This last point was really brought out in my speech on Tuesday. I got to a point where I was saying that youths...especially Hispanic and Asian youth (18-24) were severely under-represented at the voting booth, yet the "old white guys" get off their butts and vote (70% of those in that group who are eligible to vote do so). And I was saying that we have a culture that whines and moans about the "old white guys" running the country, but look who's voting vs. who is not.
So he twists that and decides I've made an ageist/racist slur against old white guys (which he was
still moaning about today. Feh! So the speech got high praise and panned all within five minutes.
And don't even get me
started on the statistics instructor!
I just want this flippin' term to
END!!!
